Matt Joyce (OF – Tampa Bay Rays) – The former Detroit Tiger has made quite the name for himself in Tampa Bay this season. A situational starter in Detroit, Joyce, has had the opportunity in Tampa to develop into an everyday player. In fact, he has developed into a player that is among the best in the league in getting the ball in play. Joyce is currently second in the MLB for batting average. The only player Joyce trails is Matt Holliday, batting a godly .379. Not only is Joyce getting on base, but he has also found some pop in his swing with 6 HRs. Joyce was on a thirteen game hitting streak before failing to get a hit on Saturday. He responded on Sunday with a HR against the Baltimore Orioles.

He is day-to-day with quad cramps, but it should not deter you from picking him up in all league formats. There has been a 43%+ difference in the amount of owners adding him, so don’t hesitate.

Joyce Stats – .368, 6 HR, 17 RBI, 21 Runs, 3 SB

Andres Torres (OF – San Fransisco Giants) – Torres is another player that has been easily finding his way on base. While he does not have the power that Joyce provides, Torres will generate plenty of singles and doubles, also having the potential to hit triples. Not only that, Torres has the speed to steal bases.  He still managed to hit 16 HRs last season, so perhaps the power will follow. Torres is still available in about 70% of leagues, and if he was not sidelined with the injury for a month, this number would be significantly higher. He has certainly flown under the radar since coming back from injury. Seek Torres out in all formats.

Torres Stats – .349, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 6 Runs, 2 SB

Todd Helton (1B – Colorado Rockies) – Todd Helton is the type of guy you think is going to slip away into irrelevance every year. Fantasy owners always get that thought in the back of their head that this is going to be the year Helton absolutely tanks. However, here we sit in 2011, and he is still chugging along with solid numbers. I don’t think I need to go into too much detail with Helton, as the vast majority of you know what he is all about. In his last four games he is 6-14 with two homers and a double. I feel that many owners have forgotten about Helton, as he is only on 19% of rosters on Yahoo.

Helton Stats – .319, 5 HR, 18 RBI, 16 Runs

Last week waiver wire pickups recap:

Alex Avila (C – Detroit Tigers) – .273, 6 HR, 24 RBI, 15 Runs, 2 SB – AVERAGE

Melky Cabrera (OF – Kansas City Royals) – .273, 5 HR, 25 RBI, 26 Runs, 4 SB – AVERAGE

Johnny Damon (OF – Tampa Bay Rays) – .254, 6 HR, 25 RBI, 17 Runs, 5 SB – AVERAGE
